SpiceWorks (a provider of ad-based systems management software) has published an insightful article titled “The State of IT”. The survey was conducted on 1100 IT administrators and managers, across primarily Small and Medium Businesses (0-99 employees). The resulting data is fascinating, and can provide valuable context within which Business Leaders can easily evaluate their own IT Budgets and approach to technology spending as a whole.
Some key findings for Small Business (less than 19 Employees)
- Average annual IT Budget on a per-employee basis was $2770 (or $230.83/mo)
- (This includes Hardware, Software, IT Staff salaries, Outside IT Consultants, and IT Services such as Managed Services, Internet and Telephone Services)
- The average IT Staff was 2.5 (full time) employees
For Medium Businesses (20-100 Employees), survey respondents reported
- Average annual IT Budget on a per-employee basis of $1993 (or $166.08/mo)
