Busy, busy, busy….Microsoft is one busy company right now! They have a lot on their plates with their new tablet, Surface, their new Outlook.com email domain and, what seems to be the hub of it all, their new operating system Windows 8.
Windows 8 is a completely different, redesigned operating system. It’s more tablet and mobile friendly than other Windows operating systems, and is designed to be used with touchscreens. According to the Building Windows 8 blog , “Windows 8 reimagines Windows.” There are apparently thousands of new features.
One of the convenient features with Windows 8 is Windows to Go, which allows users to copy their OS complete with their settings, wallpapers, files and even apps, into a USB thumb drive. Plugged it into another computer with Windows 8 already installed, and they can boot up the PC and make it look exactly alike the OS they normally use, with all settings intact.
Similar to Windows to Go, another feature with the new Windows is Windows Live syncing. This allows users to log onto any Windows 8 PC with ‘Live ID’ and get back their own personalized settings on it.
Another important feature is the Charms bar. The Charms are icons that are accessed by pressing WinKey+C, or moving the mouse to the top or bottom right corner of the screen, or by swiping a touchscreen from the right side towards the center. The five Charms are: Search, Share, Start, Devices, and Settings, and are used instead of the standard Start Menu, which is not a part of Windows 8.
In this article we cannot go through each feature of Windows 8, but stayed tuned to this blog and we will be talking more about it from now until October 26th.
